Exito en Stuttgart

La pareja terminó 2022 en lo más alto con victorias en las rondas de Zakrzow y Stuttgart de la serie FEI Dressage World Cup. En este último, asombraron a la multitud alemana, ya que anotaron un impresionante 83.440 y terminaron por delante de la leyenda de la doma Isabell Werth y DSP Quantum, así como de Benjamin Werndl y Daily Mirror. Simplemente me dejó boquiabierto

Franziskus FRH, un semental bayo de Hannover, es hijo de Fidertanz 2 de Antara. Su padre es Alabaster. Ha sido un éxito desde el principio. We focus on Ingrid Klimke's impressive stallion. Our February Horse of the Month Franziskus FRH can, consistently, put the power in his hindquarters and present a quality uphill picture. His career trajectory is also on the up. He turns 15 this year and careful, steady producing, coupled with enforced time off with a global pandemic and rider injuries, means this boy is strong, prepped and ready for the big time. Francis, as he is known, is ridden by the highly decorated Eventing champion Ingrid Klimke. She’s a class act in whatever discipline she rides, but as her father was the German Dressage legend Reiner Klimke, you could say she was born to do it. The Hanoverian stallion has the physical build, the talent and the attitude. But that doesn’t mean his team can ever forget, he is a stallion. Ingrid has said: “He is an important Dressage horse with an extraordinary charisma. And he knows that too…He's a macho. Since he is in great demand as a stallion, he has a corresponding stallion behaviour. He likes to present himself in front of an audience. His character is sweet and affectionate. The model is uphill and closed and he has lively movements with a particularly expressive trot mechanism.”

Stuttgart Success

The pair ended 2022 on a high with victories in the Zakrzow and Stuttgart rounds of the FEI Dressage World Cup™ series. In the latter they wowed the German crowd as they scored an impressive 83.440 and finished ahead of Dressage legend Isabell Werth and DSP Quantum as well as Benjamin Werndl and Daily Mirror. Klimke was absolutely thrilled with her mount’s performance: “He listened so well today, and he was just fantastic. “It’s wonderful to have this wonderful stallion, and he’s still developing. He loves his freestyle! He was so with me, totally focused.”

Here’s that winning round

Klimke and Francis then came third in a strong line-up at the London International Horse Show just behind World champion Lottie Fry and British Olympian Gareth Hughes. Their first appearance of the new year brought a personal best 84.960 in Amsterdam, where they finished fourth in another strong field. They currently lie second in the Western European League standings and look well placed for one of nine regional qualifying spots with just three rounds to go before the final in Omaha. As well as their indoor successes, the pair had a pretty good time at the FEI World Championships too. In Herning last year, Ingrid and Francis helped Germany secure Team bronze. On the strength of that success Francis was awarded the prestigious FRH suffix at the Elite auction in Verden and was crowned Hanoverian stallion of the year. At the same time, his son, Final Dream won the Bundeschampionat for five-year-olds received the FRH suffix.

He just blew me away

Franziskus FRH, a Hanoverian bay stallion, is by Fidertanz 2 out of Antara. Her sire is Alabaster. He’s been a success from the get-go. Eugene Reesink bought him as a 10-day-old foal from breeder Elisabeth Albers Loeningen. The Albers family were keen for him to go to the German Foal Championships; Reesink was happy to oblige and Francis won the title. Reesink said of the foal: “He had long, long legs, a real uphill front, totally uphill, such an attractive foal, a real eye catcher. He was so brilliant he just blew me away.” In his third year he was approved as a licenced stallion by the Westfalien studbook. Reesink sold him to Wihelm Holkenbrink and Klimke became his partner as his international career began in 2014. It was in 2019 he was nominated to join the German Olympic Dressage squad. He’d just won the four-star Grand Prix and Freestyle in Wiesbaden. The selectors had noticed. He’d made his Grand Prix debut in Munchen two years earlier in 2017, again winning the Grand Prix and Freestyle scoring an impressive 71.6 per cent and 75.8 per cent respectively. His training isn’t purely Dressage based. Thanks to the skill set of his rider, Francis enjoys variety in his work – cavalletti poles, jumping and out on the gallops make up part of his routine. It’s clear to see why Klimke would focus away from Eventing towards Dressage for such a rewarding horse. Not many athletes can switch codes at the highest level; it’s horsepower which makes it possible and the excitement of all the possibilities Franziskus FRH offers. This year sees the FEI Dressage European Championships on home turf in Riesenbeck. Klimke has a busy year ahead – no wonder she’s always smiling.
